Paste text, get an instant token estimate and the cost at your model's rate. Runs entirely in your browser.
Tokenizers split text into subword pieces; English averages roughly 4 characters or 0.75 words per token. This tool uses that heuristic (taking the larger of chars/4 and words x 1.3), which lands within about 10% of real tokenizer output for normal prose. Code, non-Latin scripts and unusual formatting tokenize less predictably; treat the estimate as a floor for those.
For exact counts, providers expose token-counting endpoints, but for the daily question ("will this fit in context?" or "what does this document cost to process?") a fast local estimate answers it without sending your text anywhere.
Exact counts require running the model's own tokenizer. The chars/4 heuristic is within about 10% for English prose, which is enough for cost and context-window planning.
No. The counter is a few lines of JavaScript running locally; there is no server, no analytics on the text, no upload.
Current mainstream models take 128k-1M tokens. As a feel: 128k tokens is roughly a 350-page book; this page you're reading is around 1,500 tokens.
The n8n Launch Pack automates the operations behind these numbers, and The Prompt Operating System covers the decisions. Both are a one-time payment away (PayPal or USDT).
